We don't have a lot of home work but there are some important things that we will expect the kids to do at home.
READING:
Your child should have a blue fabric bag that we call a Kiwi bag or a Bulldog bag for their books. They should read for about 20 min each night.
We really need those Bluebags to come back and forth to school. It is so hard to have the reading groups when some of the kids are not ready on our reading day. I have them set up on red/blue days. A couple of the groups I try to meet with everyday if it works in your schedule. Your child should read those books over and over. You can ask them questions about what they read, setting plot, characters etc. Let them see you read. Tell then stories about your time at school. They need to know that school is important to you.
MATH: Your child will be bringing home a home link almost every day. Try to get them back to school within a couple of days. We would have worked on that skill on that day at school. Check the family news letter that comes with each unit in math if you need help with the home links. Put it in a place you can find it and recycle it when the next unit comes home.
Speak-ups: They will come home on Fridays and are due on Mondays. You can help write the slips out for the students or have them do it if they can. They should have a plan for what they are sharing on Monday. Thanks for your help with them ahead of time.
SPELLING: We have a new list each week. The words will be in the BLOG section on the webpage. They work with the words all week and we take the test on Fridays.
